iSeed has been developed over the last 8 years and is a fertiliser seed dressing that is coated onto grass seed.
The formula is 20N; 4P per kilo of coated seed = 100% weight increase.
100 grammes N; 20 grammes P per kilo = 50/50 seed & fertiliser.
Why use iSeed?
Grass seeds have little storage of nutrients & are often sown into cold soil = low availability of P & N
Good early establishment of both the green phytomass and roots, secures good quality in grassland
External N and P boost early seedling development by providing immediate N and P (slow release N)
iSeed is available at the root zone at the moment when needed.
Weeds are not fertilized, fertiliser not wasted and the environment is better cared for
How has iSeed performed?
4 x better utilization of Phosphate than when broadcast as seed bed fertiliser offering better, faster root development
14% increased leaf growth 16 days after germination &32% better plant density
In UK trials in 2006, 1st cut yield was increased by up to 10% and 2nd cut yields increased by up to 3%
How to use iSeed
All you have to remember is that the product is equal parts seed and fertiliser, so if you wish to sow 10 kilos of seed per acre, then you need to apply 20 kilos of product.
The economics of iSeed
Fertiliser is currently £330/t for N; £370 for NPK
We do precision placement of Fertiliser with Maize & Beet, why not grass? Feed the sown crop, not the weeds.
Extreme weather can compromise reseeding, quicker germination with stronger plants has to be an advantage.
Savings on 1 pass with the fertiliser spinner (£4/acre?) and avoiding the chance of no seed bed fert.
Costs:
Fert @ £330/tonne @ 100 kilos/acre £33.00
Fert application @ £4.00/acre £4.00
Seed @ 14 kilos/acre £41.00
Total = £78.00
