We ask the "End User" for their opinion

Oliver Seeds philosophy is to match sward requirements to genuine farm situations.

To this end, we test our leys to ensure their farm performance and monitor what changes in varieties or species have on the performance of these leys before changing our seed formulae. No matter what is written or claimed about single varieties, the important point is what happens when these varieties are bought together in a seeds mix.

When you take what are claimed to be all the best varieties from a recommended list and mix them together, this does not necessarily give you the best sward or field performance on farm as there is an inevitable shift in species post sowing.

We have tested our swards for some years now using a Haldrup plot forage harvester as well as on farm trials. This has given us a fascinating insight into yield potential, digestibility, sugar levels, disease resistance, ground cover and persistence.

We have now taken this one step further and are looking at grazing trials to get an overview of palatability, persistence under grazing and the effect of returned manure by grazing animals.

This is why Oliver Seeds are so impressive in the field.
